Can Guys and Girls Hang Out Together?
It is definitely possible for guys and girls to be just friends without there having to be any romantic feelings. Whilst it is often difficult to generalize, usually in an adult or a teenage situation, a level of maturity will help get past any perceived problems.
Whilst there may be deep-seated cultural beliefs that say that guys look at people of the opposite sex from a carnal point of view, this is such a sweeping generalization as to be quite silly. Guys and girls are quite capable of interacting with each other without there being an ulterior motive.
If they really want to be friends, guys and girls can create a perfect relationship. If there does happen to be a physical attraction on one side, this can certainly complicate things if it is not handled properly. In this case, it will dictate whether there is a budding friendship or whether it is destined for disaster according entirely to the behavior of the parties.
Always try and be up front if you have a physical attraction to a friend. Honesty is your best bet here but you should be mature about how you approach the subject. Just be ready for any answer that you receive, even though you may not be happy with it.
When a relationship between guys and girls has developed and is not purely platonic, make sure that you mix a degree of honesty and compassion for your friends feeling. If you do not feel the same way about him or her, you should be gentle about how you treat these feelings. If you do not want to requite them, do not hurt, either.
Remember that there is a line that should not be crossed by guys and girls in any situation. If you know that you have strong feelings for a friend but that they do not feel the same way, you have to respect that and realize that if you don’t your friendship may be damaged to the point of no return.
To some people on the outside looking in, the idea of a relationship between guys and girls being platonic is crazy. Don’t worry about them, as they may just be narrowminded or mean or not have been lucky enough to experience this kind of friendship.
Guys and girls have enjoyed friendships over the centuries. Just because two people of the opposite sex hangout together, it does not mean that their relationship is anything other than casual or informal.
