The preparation for a wedding toast can cause many sleepless nights near the wedding time. It does not really matter what capacity you are in be it Bride, Groom, Best Man, Groomsman, Father of the Bride or Maid of Honor, all can be stressful. So how do you prepare for the wedding speech?

It is easier if you have some structure to the toast. Start with an introduction of yourself and get the thank you’s out of the way. The launch into the body of your toast be it a story about the bride or groom or otherwise. Finally, end with a toast and a well wishing for the happy couple.

Once you have your draft wedding toast prepared, you will need to set aside some time to practice it. All speeches have been practiced, the easier it looks, the more it has been practiced. Take ten minutes a day to stand in front of the mirror and read aloud to see if it makes sense and flows well. Slow down:
It is naturally when you are nervous about giving a speech that you will tend to race through it. It would be a shame after all the wedding toast preparation to rush through it at rapid speed. Take a big deep breath before you start and practice stopping after each sentence or cue card.
Simplicity:
One of the biggest mistakes in a wedding toast is to try to tell long winded or complicated stories. This is very difficult for even the best of orators so best to avoid. Tell simple short stories so you will not be put off if you do not get the reaction you were hoping for.
